Upcoming Event
Sisters Health & Wellness Collective will host a virtual parallel event during the UN Commission on the Status of Women/CSW 67 Forum on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 4:30PM (ET).
We will screen “Katrina Babies,” a powerful 82 minutes film that provides intergenerational stories about the deadly 2005 New Orleans hurricane, it’s aftermath and tales of survival.
From first-time filmmaker and New Orleans native Edward Buckles, Jr., Katrina Babies offers an intimate look at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and its impact on the youth of New Orleans. Sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, an entire generation still grapples with the lifelong impact of having their childhood redefined by tragedy. Buckles, who was 13 years old during Katrina and its initial aftermath, spent seven years documenting the stories of his peers who survived the storm as children, using his community’s tradition of oral storytelling to open a door for healing and to capture the strength and spirit of his city.
